PM - Termites are your responsibility

Termites can be a major problem in certain areas but it is essential that you, as the landlord, stay on top of the problem and get regular inspections. Either book in a yearly inspection and let your tenant know or arrange to have the inspection when the property is empty.

Here are a few tips to bear in mind and maybe a good checklist to put in your property for future tenants:

• Wood attracts termites so do not stack any wood near the buildings or under the house – this includes log fire wood stacks, old stumps and building refuse.
• Termites are also attracted to water so make sure all leaking water pipes are fixed as soon as possible and if you have air conditioning make sure you place a bucket underneath.
• Termites like humid conditions so keep air flowing naturally and fix up any drainage issues.
