Warming up in winter

It’s getting close to that time of the year when the first ‘chill’ starts to creep into the air and you might be thinking it’s time to get the winter woolies out! With the rising cost of power, it’s a good time to think of ways to save cost, for both yourself and your family at home, as well as your tenants!

Here are some questions worth some thought:

•  Does your rental property have heating options (for example gas) and insulation to reduce power costs?
•   If you have a heater in your property, when was it last serviced? When was the insulation last topped up?
•   Are there other ways which you can help keep the cold out and the warmth in?

Some tips from the experts on lowering heating costs and making small improvements around the home:

1  Heavier Curtains - if the curtains are ready for a change, using heavier materials may help to keep the heat in more
2   Seal up gaps and cracks that let the cold air in
3   Insulate hot water pipes - this can reduce the heat loss from your hot water tank to the taps, reducing the energy needed to get hot water.
